How To Prioritise Self-Care In 2023

The beginning of a new year is a great time to reflect on what changes you can make to your lifestyle to have a rewarding and fulfilling 12 months and build positive life-long habits. Many people who make New Year’s Resolutions do so to improve their wellbeing, re-balance their work-life balance and boost their mental and physical health.

In fact, according to a Forbes Health / OnePoll survey, 45 per cent of people said improving their mental health would be their top New Year’s Resolution. This was followed by 39 per cent who wanted to boost their fitness, 37 per cent who hoped to lose weight, and 33 per cent who intended to have a healthier diet.

Taking care of mental health was even more important to Generation Z, with half citing it as their main priority in 2023.

One of the best ways to look after your wellbeing is to prioritise self-care, which involves looking after your own physical, mental and emotional health. While some people regard this as a luxury, it is increasingly being recognised as a necessity in order to cope with the pressures of modern life and not get trapped in a mental health crisis.

Ways you can improve your self-care this year include getting more sleep, eating health and fuelling food, and exercising regularly. You could also schedule frequent face-to-face time with friends and boost your social life.

Look for activities that are mentally stimulating, such as learning a new subject, reading books, watching films or doing puzzles. You could also engage in spiritual practices, find ways to cope with feelings, talk to a therapist or take part in activities that help you process your emotions.

Simple things like having baths, taking supplements, wearing face masks can also make a big difference, allowing you to take time for yourself to nurture and restore your body.

There are many ways to pamper yourself at home, including filling a hot bubble bath with some epsom salt for eczema to take care of your skin, give your mind a break and really relax.
